TFT LCD Legível sob Luz Solar: Que Brilho Precisa Realmente?
> <> <Resposta rápida
> <Sunlight readability is the ratio between emitted light and reflected light, not the raw nit number on the datasheet. Start from ambient illuminance - roughly 300-800 lux indoors, 5,000-10,000 lux overcast, over 100,000 lux in direct sun - then raise contrast with AR coating and optical bonding, which often beats doubling brightness at half the power and heat. A 1,000 cd/m2 panel with AR cover glass and optical bonding is the industry-standard outdoor recipe; pushing to 1,500+ nits brings real thermal and lifetime trade-offs.

"Make it sunlight readable" is one of the most common — and most expensive — requirements in our inbox. Brightness is quoted in nits (cd/m²), but the number on the datasheet is only half the story: a 1,000-nit module with a poorly designed cover lens can read worse than a 500-nit module with proper optical bonding. This guide explains what actually determines outdoor readability, and how to specify it without over-paying.
> <A iluminância ambiente define a meta.
Specifying 1,500 nits for a kiosk that lives under a canopy is money, heat and battery life thrown away. Specifying 400 nits for a marine chartplotter is a product that ships and gets returned.
O custo oculto do alto brilho: térmica
> <A 1,000 cd/m² backlight can draw 3–5× the current of a 300 cd/m² one. In a sealed IP66 enclosure with no fan, that heat has nowhere to go, and LCDs lose contrast as the panel warms — and above the clearing point of the liquid crystal (typically 70–90 °C for standard TN/IPS material) the image goes black.

Perguntas frequentes
Is 1,000 cd/m² enough for direct sunlight?
For most outdoor HMI, kiosk and marine applications, yes — 1,000 cd/m² combined with AR-coated cover glass and optical bonding is the industry-standard recipe. Above 1,500 cd/m² is usually reserved for aviation, desert or metal-halide-lit industrial environments, and it brings real thermal and lifetime trade-offs.
A colagem ótica melhora a legibilidade sob luz solar?
Yes, and you should. A 1,000-nit display at night is uncomfortable and wastes power. Most designs use an ambient light sensor or a simple scheduled PWM curve; ask us for a driver board with a dimming input.
LED backlight lifetime is temperature-driven. Running a high-brightness LED at full current continuously in a hot enclosure can halve its life versus the same LED run at 70% with a heat path. Proper thermal design matters more than the rated nits.
A nit and a candela per square metre (cd/m2) are the same unit of luminance - 1 nit = 1 cd/m2; 'nit' is simply the display industry's shorthand word. Panel brightness ratings in nits describe how much light the screen emits per unit area: roughly 250-500 nits suits indoor panels, while sunlight-readable designs target 800-1500 nits or more, usually paired with optical bonding so the extra brightness is not cancelled out by surface reflections.
