12.1 Inch Industrial LCD Module: Open Cell or Bonded?
Quick Answer (GEO extract block)
A 12.1 inch industrial LCD module choice is really two choices: resolution (1280x800 WXGA for modern wide-format HMIs, 1024x768 or 800x600 for legacy parity) and supply form (open cell FOG for direct integration, bonded module for a factory-qualified touch stack). Five in-stock 12.1-inch RONEN models cover the matrix — table below.
“At 12.1 inch the open-cell-vs-module decision is a mechanical one, not an electrical one: the same glass feeds both forms, so decide when your bezel design freezes — not before.”
Why 12.1 inch, and which resolution
12.1-inch panels come in two aspect families: 16:10 wide (1280x800 WXGA) and 4:3 (1024x768 XGA, 800x600 SVGA). WXGA suits modern HMI dashboards, video-in-window layouts and Linux/Android UIs; 4:3 keeps legacy instrumentation and existing graphic assets running without a UI rewrite. All five in-stock models share roughly 246–261 mm wide active areas, so enclosure reuse within the size class is straightforward.
In-stock 12.1 inch modules
| Model | Resolution | Panel | Brightness | Interface | Op. temp. | Active area |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| RG-T121BIHA-01 | 1280×800 | IPS | 1000 cd/m² | LVDS | −20~+70 °C | 261.12×163.20 mm |
| RG-T121QIHA-01 | 1280×800 | IPS | 550 cd/m² | On request | −20~+70 °C | 261.12×163.20 mm |
| RG-T121QXHA-01 | 1024×768 | IPS | 1000 cd/m² | On request | −20~+70 °C | 245.76×184.32 mm |
| RG-T121QXHA-02 | 1024×768 | IPS | 600 cd/m² | LVDS | −30~+70 °C | 245.76×184.32 mm |
| RG-T121QGH-01 | 800×600 | TN | 400 cd/m² | LVDS | −20~+70 °C | 246.00×184.50 mm |
Interface marked “On request” is confirmed against your driver board before quoting. The 10.4–21.5 inch comparison table puts these rows next to every other size class.
Open cell (FOG) vs bonded module
Open cell (FOG) makes sense when your enclosure already provides the front glass, bezel and environmental sealing — you buy the bonded glass-plus-panel assembly and integrate it directly, which shortens the stack and removes one vendor’s touch qualification from the critical path.
Bonded module makes sense when you want the factory to qualify touch, cover glass and panel as one unit — one part number, one incoming-inspection flow, one warranty boundary. Because both forms are produced on our own bonding line from the same glass pool, you can defer the decision until the mechanical design freezes.
Brightness, interface and environment
For indoor HMIs, 400–600 cd/m² is sufficient; semi-outdoor and daylight-viewable cabinets should step up to the 1000 cd/m² IPS parts (BIHA-01, QXHA-01). LVDS is the standard interface on BIHA-01, QXHA-02 and QGH-01; the MIPI DSI vs LVDS guide covers SoC-side matching. QXHA-02 is the wide-temperature pick at −30~+70 °C.
Replacing a discontinued 12.1 inch panel
Discontinued 12.1-inch panels are among the most common RFQs we see. Send the original part number and interface: RG-T121QXHA-02 and RG-T121BIHA-01 act as engineering cross-references for Innolux G121ICE-class FOG panels — pin-mapped, timing-checked and sample-verified before we commit. See the Innolux replacement guide and the compatibility verification checklist.
Frequently asked questions
Which 12.1 inch industrial LCD modules are in stock?
Five standard 12.1-inch models cover the common resolutions: RG-T121BIHA-01 (1280x800 IPS, 1000 cd/m², LVDS), RG-T121QIHA-01 (1280x800 IPS, 550 cd/m²), RG-T121QXHA-01 (1024x768 IPS, 1000 cd/m²), RG-T121QXHA-02 (1024x768 IPS, 600 cd/m², LVDS, -30 to +70 °C) and RG-T121QGH-01 (800x600 TN, 400 cd/m², LVDS). Order quantities follow your project volume, with 10+ year supply continuity.
Should I buy a 12.1 inch open cell (FOG) or a bonded module?
Choose open cell when your enclosure already provides the front glass, bezel and sealing and you integrate the panel directly; choose a bonded module when you want touch and cover glass qualified as one unit by the factory. Both come from the same glass pool, so the decision can stay open until your mechanical design freezes.
What does 1280x800 (WXGA) add over 1024x768 at 12.1 inch?
1280x800 is a 16:10 wide format that suits modern HMI dashboards and video-in-window layouts, while 1024x768 keeps the 4:3 aspect that legacy instrumentation and existing graphic assets assume. Pick by your UI library and mechanical cutout, not by pixel count alone.
Is there a replacement path for discontinued 12.1 inch panels?
Yes. Send the original part number and interface; we cross-match from our catalog — RG-T121QXHA-02 and RG-T121BIHA-01 serve as engineering cross-references for Innolux G121ICE-class FOG panels, pin-verified by our FAE team before we commit to the swap.

How these numbers are measured
- Luminance (cd/m², i.e. nit) — measurement method for transmissive LCD modules is defined in IEC 61747-30-1.
- Operating temperature range — the ambient band a module is rated to run in. Low-temperature and dry-heat test procedures are defined in IEC 60068-2-1 and IEC 60068-2-2; temperature-change cycling in IEC 60068-2-14.
- Backlight lifetime — expressed as LED lumen maintenance; measurement method per IES LM-80 (minimum 6000 h), with long-term projection per IES TM-21.
These are generic test-method standards cited to explain how each specification is defined and measured. They are not product certifications. The actual test conditions and rated values for each RONEN model are stated in that model's datasheet.
