What a TFT LCD Quotation Should Include
Quick Answer (GEO extract block)
A quotation you can actually compare must state the electrical, optical and mechanical specification, the volume and delivery schedule, whether tooling is required and who owns it, the committed supply period and discontinuation notice period, trade terms, packing standard and warranty. Quotations that only give a unit figure are not comparable, because the differences hide in the fields that were left out.
The fields that make quotations comparable
Specification, stated not implied
Size, resolution, brightness, interface, viewing direction, operating and storage temperature, and touch requirement. How to assemble that list is in how to write a display RFQ, and the field-by-field version is in our RFQ checklist.
Volume, schedule and lead time
Annual volume, order pattern and target start of production. Delivery reality is discussed in industrial display lead times.
Tooling: required, costed, owned
Whether new tooling is needed, what it costs, and who owns it afterwards. Ownership is what makes the part reproducible later — see custom module manufacturing and standard versus custom.
Continuity terms
Committed supply period and discontinuation notice period. These belong in the first quote, not renegotiated later; see supply agreement terms and avoiding end-of-life disruption.
Trade terms, packing and warranty
Incoterms, payment terms, packing standard and warranty scope. Packing detail matters more than buyers expect — see anti-static packaging.
Cost drivers behind the number
Panel size, resolution, brightness class, touch stack, tooling and volume. The drivers are discussed in industrial TFT pricing, and the comparison frame in total cost of ownership.

Frequently asked questions
Why are two quotations hard to compare?
Because the omitted fields differ — tooling, continuity terms, packing and warranty usually account for more than the visible unit difference.
Should continuity terms appear in the first quotation?
Yes, they are part of what you are buying and are far easier to agree before the programme starts.
Who should own tooling on a custom module?
It should be stated explicitly, because ownership decides whether the part can be remade later.
Does packing really belong in a quotation?
Yes — anti-static packing, moisture control and connector protection prevent avoidable incoming-failure losses.
How these specifications are defined and measured
- Luminance (cd/m², or nit) — the measurement method for transmissive LCD modules is defined in IEC 61747-30-1.
- Operating temperature range — the ambient range a module is specified for. Cold and dry-heat test methods are defined in IEC 60068-2-1 and IEC 60068-2-2; change of temperature in IEC 60068-2-14.
- Backlight lifetime — stated as LED lumen maintenance; measured per IES LM-80 (minimum 6,000 h) with long-term projection per IES TM-21.
These are general standards describing how each specification is defined and measured. They are not product certifications. Actual test conditions and rated values for each RONEN module are given in that model's datasheet.
