Display Power Budget & Battery Runtime Estimator
Sum the display subsystem draw — backlight, TCON/controller, and touch — then estimate how long a battery will last. Use it to size power supplies and battery packs for portable / field instruments.
Power inputs
Enter what you know; backlight can be given as current or power.
FAQ
Should I include the MCU in the budget?
The tool covers the display subsystem only (backlight + controller + touch). Add your host MCU and peripherals separately; a typical Cortex-M with external SDRAM adds 50–200 mW.
Why does brightness cut battery life fastest?
Backlight is usually 70–90% of total display power. Halving nits or using optical bonding to need fewer nits is the single biggest runtime win.
When should I run the power budget estimator?
Run it before fixing your battery size — for any battery-powered or thermally limited product. It shows how backlight level, brightness, and interface choice split the display’s watt budget, so you can size the cell or pick a lower-power module early.
