FAQ
Which interface is best for a long cable run?
Beyond about 50 cm, parallel RGB and SPI become unreliable. Use LVDS (single or dual link) for medium runs, or MIPI DSI and eDP for high resolution over longer distances.
Can I drive an RGB panel from a Raspberry Pi?
Yes for up to 800 by 480 via DPI, but for higher resolutions use a board with LVDS or eDP output, or an HDMI-to-LVDS bridge. Pin count and timing also matter.
When should I use the interface selector?
Use it at the start of hardware design, before you pick the driver IC and connector: answer three questions about your controller, resolution and cable length and get an instant, pin-count-aware interface recommendation.
