TFT LCD Manufacturing Process: From Glass to Finished Module

A TFT module begins as bare glass and becomes a finished, tested, shippable part through five stages: polarizer lamination, driver-IC bonding, module assembly, capacitive-touch build and packing. Each stage has its own cleanliness and test discipline, and the discipline at the bond and lamination steps is what separates a high-yield line from a return machine. This overview links to each step in detail.

Where Quality Is Won

Most failures are seeded at the bond and lamination steps: a particle under a polarizer, a misaligned ACF bridge, a bubble in OCA. Those are caught downstream only by disciplined inspection — AOI of ACF particles, darkroom optical measurement, and OQC. The steps are connected: a weak bond at FOG surfaces as a return only after LCM and packing.

What a Buyer Should Ask

When you qualify a module, the useful questions are about process: polarizer lamination yield, ACF bond inspection coverage, darkroom optical-test coverage, OCA bonding yield, and the packing specification for your shipping mode. Those answers predict field returns better than any single spec line.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the main steps of TFT LCD manufacturing?

Five: POL lamination (polarizers on glass), FOG (driver IC bonded via ACF), LCM assembly (backlight and touch built in), CTP (capacitive touch layer built and bonded to the cover lens), and packing with final QC. Each step has its own cleanliness and test discipline.

Where is quality actually decided?

At the cleanliness- and bond-sensitive steps: polarizer lamination yield, ACF bond inspection, and OCA cover-lens bonding. The darkroom optical measurement and OQC are the gates that confirm the work before shipping.

Why should a buyer understand the process?

Because process discipline predicts field returns. Questions about bond inspection, optical test coverage and packing specification tell you more about a supplier than a spec sheet does.
